In a first, 50 lady doctors from India, who have been frontline COVID-19 warriors in the UAE performed a fusion dance to salute the country’s resilience and commemorate its 50th anniversary. All these doctors are members of Association of Kerala Medical and dental Graduates- AKMG Emirates.Titled ‘Naseej,’ a cultural tapestry, the fusion dance event was held on the main stage of Global Village at 7pm on March 13. Organized by MeDeCON International Events, an event management company run by doctors in the UAE.

‘Naseej’ means interlacing of cultures and the doctors have chosen dances of the desert from this region and India. It was  a fusion dance of Khaleeji (Arabic/Emirati style) and Ghoomar (Rajasthani folk dance from India). The fusion dance is choreographed by Anupama Pillai, wife of Dr Praveen Nair.

The programme is supported by India Pavilion at the Global Village, which hosted a felicitation  ceremony after the performance on the main stage. The ceremony was attended by diplomats from Indian Consulate in Dubai and cultural ambassadors from both India and the UAE.

It has been now officially awarded and recorded in World book of Records, London and Arabian world records as the worlds largest fusion dance by doctors.

Here is the  Report by Dr Feroz Gaffoor, Cultural Convenor, AKMG Emirates.

Naseej- a cultural tapestry has emerged as a milestone event of AKMG Emirates encrypted in golden letters in the history of its 19 years of existence.Naseej which means interlacing of cultures in Arabic, a fusion dance presentation by 51 doctors from AKMG Emirates has been the talk of the town ever since it was conceived and staged on the prestigious Main stage of Global Village on 13th of this month.

It started off a humble plan to bring dancer doctors of all 7 regions into one platform, which was then prepped up with the idea of paying a tribute to UAE and saluting its resilience during the difficult times of pandemic by way of presenting a dance form of Arabic region fused with an Indian form. The project gained new momentum when the thought that 50 doctors on a dancing platform might be the first in the world. It gave the core team the idea to submit applications for world records. Ideation team consisted of Dr Nita Salam, Dr Sajitha Prasad, Anupama Pillai and record attempt coordination was handled by Dr Soumya. Core team wanted to make it big  and with the gracious support of Dr Sirajudeen as the Director of Medecon; got the permission to perform on the dream platform of Global Village. It was indeed a great collective effort under the leadership and support in every step by the AKMG Emirates executive team headed by The President Dr George Joseph, Secretary General Dr Safarulla Khan,Treasurer Dr Biju Ittimani and myself-the Cultural Convenor. With the help of Dr George Jacob as the Resources Chair, we were able to get support from Link India and Malabar Gold even though the expenses were way high considering the accreditation charges for world records and the logistics of bringing 50 people on stage.

Arabian World Records and World Book of records London accepted our application and endorsed accreditors for the event.Dr Jamaludeen organized a press meet which was well attended. More than 25 media covered the upcoming event and the posts were trending on social media. Team Naseej came up with a fantastic performance witnessed by the largest number of audience that Global Village has seen in years. All members and families felt proud and were awestruck with the performance.

At the felicitation ceremony that followed at the India Pavilion, accreditors of both World Records declared the historic accomplishment in front of an august gathering blessed by the presence of HE Ramkumar Thankaraju-Consul of Education & Commerce and Ms Mumzy Merchant- Director of India Pavilion.Records plaque was received by President Dr George Joseph and Secretary General Dr Safarulla Khan in the presence of senior leaders. Anupama Pillai - who directed and choreographed Naseej was specially honored.
All participants were honored with the Record certificates from both world record bodies.

Special thanks to Dr Sunny, Dr George Joseph, Dr Safarulla, Dr Biju, Dr Marly, Dr Jolly, Dr Muneeba and key leaders for all the support extended and to everyone who has contributed in many different ways for the success of the event. We salute the Core Organizing team consisting of Dr Siraj, Dr Feroz, Dr Sajitha, Dr Nita, Dr Soumya and Mrs Anupama for dreaming big and daring to make the dream come true.
